Area- Headquarter, Posted on- 25-02-2019
The revival of Rajhara Colliery added yet another chapter under the leadership of CMD Shri Gopal Singh in success stories scripted by Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) in recent years. This much awaited revival of one of the oldest collieries of India, will prove to be a milestone in CCL's dream run towards 100 MT Coal Production. Hon’ble MP, Palamu, Shri B D Ram along with CMD, CCL Shri Gopal Singh dedicated the revived mine to nation on 25th February during a small ceremony cheered by hundreds of locals, whose smiling faces elucidated the importance of this Colliery. On this occasion, Hon’ble MLA Shri Radhakrishna Kishore, General Manager, Rajahara Shri M K Rao, representatives of different labour unions, members of ACC, other dignitaries were present to grace the occasion.
It is an auspicious event and a moment of pride for us, CMD Shri Gopal Singh said while addressing the enthusiastic crowd. It is the result of the collaborative effort of each of you that after about 10 years Rajahara Colliery, will see light of the day, he added. Shri Singh further added that today 70 percent of the country's households are illuminated by coal produced from CIL and now the Rajhara Colliery will also contribute to it. Shri Singh informed that nearly 15,000 employment will be generated directly and indirectly from revival of Rajhara Colliery. Shri Singh appealed to everyone to come together to develop the Rajhara Colliery as a Model Mines with mutual cooperation and joint effort. Praising Hon’ble Railway and Coal Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal for his strong leadership and visionary outlook, Shri Singh said that the coal industry is very fortunate to have a dynamic leader like him, he has always inspired us to work towards the inclusive development. Shri Singh informed that presently production limit of 5 lakh tonnes of coal annually has been sanctioned from the colliery.
CCL planstoworkonreopeningmoresuchmineswhichwereclosedearlierbecauseof safety & economic reasons. This will generate employment for local populace and produce more coal for the country which will help in furthering our PM’s vision of providing affordable electricity for all.
The mine was initially workedbyundergroundmethodbutafternationalisationitwas converted to an opencast mine to recover good quality reserves of coal whichotherwise would have been lost. The mine is situated close to Sadabah river, atributary of North Koel. Sinceminingoperationswerebelowthehighfloodlevel(HFL)of river, they were found unsafe and mine productionwassuspendedinOctober2010 for safety reasons.Additionally, there were issues related to environmental clearancealso. The management of CCL, asubsidiaryofCoalIndiaLimited, took several corrective and precautionary measures for the safety of mine and itsenvironmental clearance.
The grade of coal is G9 having a calorific value in the range of 4601 to 4900 Kcal/Kg. The balance coal reserve in the mine is approx. 5.0 million tonnes. With a capacity to extract 3.0 lakh tonne of coal per year, the life of mine is ascertained at 18 years.
