Government is using space technology for curbing illegal coal mining activities in the coalfields areas of the country including Jharkhand. Central Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, is having coalfields which are spread out in eight districts of Jharkhand. The company is committed to meet energy requirement of the Nation.
A user-friendly mobile app (Khan Prahari) Mobile Applications has been developed, which is a part of the system, for reporting any illegal coal mining incident through photographs as well as textual information by any individual.
The space technology empowers a common public i.e., Aaam Aadmi for reporting through “Khan Prahari” mobile application from coalfields areas where illegal mining activities are undergoing 24 x 7.
This new technology aims to establish a regime of responsive coal mining administration by curbing instances of illegal coal mining activity through remote sensing and detection technology.
The system can scan large areas around the existing coalfield boundary to identify any unusual activity. Accordingly, a suitable action may be taken by the concern department/agency. The identity of person, who passes information through Khan Prahari APP, will remain confidential.
Hon’ble Coal Minister Shri Piyush Goyal has inaugurated Khan Prahari APP on 4th July, 2018. It is also available on Google Play Store where any person can download it.
The Ministry of Coal, Govt. of India, has developed a Coal Mining Surveillance & Management System (CMSMS) software in coordination with Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Application and Geo-informatics (BISAG), Gandhinagar and Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY).
