Practice Preventive Vigilance not Punitive: Chairman, CIL, Three Day Induction Course for Vigilance Officers starts off at IICM

A three day Induction course for Vigilance Officers started-off at Indian Institute of Coal Management (IICM), Ranchi in presence of CVO, CIL Shri T Venkata Subramaniam, CVO, CCL Shri A K Shrivastava, CVO, CMPDI, Shri Sandeep Raj, Executive Director, IICM Shri S N Singh and other vigilance officers from CIL and its subsidiaries. CMD, CMPDI Shri Shekhar Saran was the Guest of Honor of the inauguration function. The three day course has been designed impart technical know-how and behavioral competency to newly inducted/posted officers in vigilance department in CIL and its subsidiaries and its allied organizations like CMPFO. All together 30 officers have are attending the 3 day program.
Addressing the participants of the induction course and other dignitaries through video conferencing Chairman, Coal India Shri A K Jha congratulated the vigilance department and IICM management for organizing this course, as this is the first time that this kind of program is being organized in CIL. Terming the vigilance officers as the ethical champions of the company he said that the onus of ensuring transparent, accountable and ethical corporate governance in a huge organization like CIL lies on your shoulders. Encouraging the young officers, Shri Jha asked the participants to come up as a role model since company cannot comprise on values and ethics. He advised the participants and CVOs to practice preventive vigilance and not punitive vigilance, as most of the mistakes done by employees are because of ignorance and only a small number of employees have malafide intentions, which at the same time should be dealt sternly. He also asked the officers to act with more maturity and care because as a judge their responsibility grows manifold. An ideal vigilance officer should be seen as trustworthy and dependable colleague by all as at the end everyone is working for the larger good of the organization, Shri Jha added.
Earlier in his address, Guest of Honor, CMD, CMPDIL Shri Shekhar Saran congratulated the management for organizing the program and wished that the participants reap maximum benefits from this course. He asked the participants to be more open, approachable and friendly as a vigilance officer. Shri Shekhar asked the participants to be informed and updated with the latest developments and technology both, as this is the need of the hour.
CVO, CIL Shri T Venkata Subramaniam while addressing the participants said that unlike other department, officers of Vigilance Deptt has to handle matter related to every domain hence they have more responsibility and they need to know and understand the nuances of the industry, as there is no room for error. He asked the participants to be thorough as well as meticulous while dealing with the assigned cases and this induction course will definitely enhance knowledge and leverage your experience as well as skills. He reminded the participants that no injustice should be delivered and therefore we need to expand our vision, to understand the motive behind any act.
Introducing the Induction course, to the participants CVO, CCL Shri A K Shrivastava informed the gathering that the prime motive of the course is not only to transfer technical details but also help the participants to develop behavioral and attitudinal competencies required for their role as responsible vigilance officer. In addition to the above, the participants will be guided on procedural aspect that needs to be adhered while their tenure in vigilance department, Shri Shrivastava added further.
Executive Director, IICM Shri S N Singh delivered the welcome address while CVO, CMPDI, Shri Sandeep Raj gave the vote of thanks. CVO, MCL, CVO, SECL and CVO, ECL were present to take the technical sessions on various vigilance issues. Shri Nilay Prakash, IICM is the Course Coordinator. Shri S K Singh, Shri Swayam Prakash and Shri Dheeraj Chaudhary, Shri Venugopal Trivedi, Shri Nilanjan Chaterjee and others were present to grace the occasion.
